This video message is by Catherine Stihler, CEO of Creative Commons, as she stands in front of the first Carnegie Library in Dunfermline, Scotland. Built in 1883, the library features its mission carved above the sandstone entrance: "Let there be light." Stihler picked this spot to symbolize the work of both the Internet Archive & Creative Commons--each celebrating a milestone anniversary in 2021. Stihler notes: "Preservation of knowledge and culture for everyone, everywhere...

With your support, we've made great strides over the last 25 years towards universal access to knowledge. However, it’s important that we don’t take this key human right for granted. So to draw attention to the importance of access to knowledge - and the threats it faces - we’re imagining a world without it.  We invite you to get creative: record a video, create an image, tell a story, send out a social post from the year 2046. Share it using the hashtag #IA2046 and tag us at @IA2046 ....

In October of 1996, engineers at the the San Francisco-based Internet Archive launched their first web crawlers, taking snapshots of web pages. At the time, the World Wide Web was only 2.5 terabytes in size. In 1996, it was still impossible to predict how large the World Wide Web might become. Even in those early days of the Web, broken links (404 errors) were a growing problem, and it was clear that most Web pages were short-lived. Brewster Kahle and Bruce Gilliat invented a system for...

Set on a farm nestled just above the Pacific Ocean, DWeb Camp is also a chance to make deep connections: to builders of Web 3.0, to global communities calling for...

Building days prior to the event brought out the best qualities about the DWeb community. We were a supportive mesh network fueled by excitement to share the spaces we've built and created. In mere days the camp grew from 70 participants to over 400 with members coming from all corners of the world. Volunteers: plan on arriving at the Farm at 10 AM on Monday.  We'll be building bulletin boards, laying cable, painting signs....and getting ready for 400 new friends!
